Horace Slughorn.

Recently i have really been trying to push a design and to give it more character. This is an attempt at Professor Horace Slughorn.

Attempt one.

A base to start the pushing. A bit bland, not much character

Attempt two.

pushed the shapes more. but still he looks a bit angry, i'd say he looks like uncle vernon more than slughorn

Attempt three.

Combing ideas from the first two designs to a result i am quite happy with.

Pool sketching

Apparently i don't get enough sunshine, since people can't look directly at my legs when light shines on them. So recently i have been dragged to the pool. Lots of people there. lots of sketching to be had.

Yule Ball progress.

Documented progression of my harry potter and the goblet of Fire picture.

Kept chaning my mind a lot with this one, and eventually the boy who lived was cut from the piece all together,

Dumbledore's Army.

I have recently set myself the task of drawing a scene from every single harry potter book. This was originally in build up to the final film realease in cinemas. This was 2 weeks ago now. Can you spot a problem there?

Anyway. I have now reached the past half way point. and am now on book five, the order of the phoenix.

I've decided to illustrate the first meeting of dumbledore's army, which takes place in the hogs head in hogsmeade. Brilliant a chance to draw a background that is not a stone castle.

I've really made it a goal to spend more time thinking about hte picture as a whole and the background.

this is my current wip.

adding the characters tomorrow.

oh crap there is tonnes of people in dumbledores army.

Remember when..

Remember when i said i was going to post a sketch a day?

Well that hasn't really worked out well has it?

Honestly i have been drawing everyday, (well i use everyday lightly) I just got distracted by the death of my computer and awesome life stuff' for example seeing a midget that looked like liza minelli in new york city.

It's experiences such as that which really shape a person.

SaD - x-men yearbook

So in a flu induced delusion today i decided i want to make like a yearbook of all the x-men in the evo OC contest. So whilst still in my pajamas i declared to today picture day for fictional characters everywhere and began sketching their portraits.

So far i have managed amy/mirage Evelyn/cuttlefish and eddie/click.

Eddie is yet to receive any colour. but still pleased with the first two..its just slightly terrorfying how many more there are to draw. :S

My blog buddie has just completed drawing all the contestants and did a fantastic job of it! go check it out

Spelling Bee

So i had the pleasure of finally seeing on of my most favourite musicals live on stage yesterday, in lovely London Town. Beautiful sunny day and i went off exploring parts of london i have never seen before all the hidden cobbled streets that connect covant garden and liecester square. it was wonderful. Found an art shop bought some new pencils settled myself in a sunny courtyard and listening to a live swing band play. perfect day.

The musical i saw was The 25th annual putnam county spelling bee. a musical...about a spelling bee. although it has been harshly dismissed by many stuffy london theatre critics who care only for niche dusty old musicals like your sondhiems and gilbert and sullivan, because it dares to entertain the audience and leaves people happy.

Thats what it did for me made me ridiculously happy i was grinning from ear to ear, even more so knowing that i got to see it for £7.50 when tickets in london cost around £80 nower days oh the joys of cheap student tickets.

anyway, that inspired some spelling bee related arts on the train journey home.

I want to be in this show so badly :(.

sketch a day comic frenzy

The past few days i have been, travelling on trains a majority of the time but also planning and drawing out my comic . So here is a collage of my favourite Russell facail expressions from the 16 comic pages.

a lot of eye rolling angry faces.

On Tuesday i took a break from Russell and doodled and some evil guy was the product of it.

Look how evil he is, he's got it all beard, ponytail, goblet. Seriously who drinks from a goblet these days? I'll tell you evil people......

...and wizards.

SaD - Doodles

Just a few Doodles from today. I quite like the guy on the left a short lab assistant. Like a modern day "igor" character.

SaD - fury

So i can't find my sketch book!! argh i went to a circus themed life drawing event and everything and now i can't find my flippin' sketch book. grr.

Just getting over jet lag after flying back to the UK normal service shall resume shortly.

for now enjoy this doodle from a few days ago.

FOr my last meal in the america i was treated to the macaroni grill...they leave crayons on their table and the waiters write on the table cloth it's VERY tempting. I just couldn't help myself.

My brother asked me to draw someone from the jersey shore. So i drew him snooki to watch over him whilst he eats.

SaD - comic pages.

rough lines of page 2 of phase 4 comic.

a page in which my character Russell is pestered by a girl. This seems to be a regular occurrence for poor Russ.

SaD & Comic Contest

It's that time again, that time when i stop just thinking about what I am going to do in the comic contest, and actually do some proper planning and writing.

I am quite excited this round. It's a good mix of characters, that i can have a lot of fun with.

Today was mainly a LOT of prep work, writing a prologue and organizing my rather untamed brown pen scribbles into a sensible word document.

and so begins the comic drawing! So sketch a day will mainly be full of panels and characters in this comic!

so for the last time in a while.. a random character.

It's zues! Greek God of Gods. What terribly drawn hands he has.

SaD - becoming human

Sooo Sunday saw me doodle George from one of my favourite TV shows "being human", Well being human has an online spin off series called "becoming human" which follows the adventures of a
Vampire, werewolf and ghost at school trying to solve the murder of the ghost.

It sound a bit twilight meets scooby doo, but it's quite good. Its all very interactive clues are released on the blog everyday by the characters, and we all sit there and try and figure it out. it's all good fun.

I am really enjoying it so i decided to draw the gang.

Try and guess which is which.

The first episode is here come watch and help solve the mystery.

today on Disney Crossovers...

I....I...just don't know what is going on. Perhaps the artist's Comments well help us understand whats going on..

"I was asked to do a photomanipulation with Jasmine, Luke Skywalker and Queen Tyr'ahnee.
Picture isn't great, cause I found only a few images of Tyr'hane"

no...that didn't help at all.

SaD 8 & 9

"Sad" not an emotion but a cool initialism for Sketch a day

now i did not miss yesterday i just didn't upload it onto here. It has been living in my sketch book for a day.

So sunday...is being human day! so my sunday sketch was everyones favorite werewolf George

George looking alarmed abmound a sea of faces and a face that is just deemed WRONG with a big cross through it. I was certainly most unimpressed with that drawing for a reason i cannot quite remember.

Now for today's sketch a day being the day of love, my dear original character russell gets all dressed up for the occasion much to his dismay.

happy valentines day!

Sentimental Sketch/ songs i adore.

So This technically isn't part of my sketch a day, but it's one i did a while ago to visualise an audition song of mine, to get a feel emotionally for the song and all that artsy stuff.

I kind of want to also share with you some songs i am either obbsessed with because of some reason or another or its just incredibly beautiful.

So this is really easing us into it.

The song, which is still one of my favourites, is called "a way back to then" From title of show. This picture shows my personal journey and love for musical theatre, which is what the song is all about.

sketch a day 6 or maybe 7?

I think the small spiderman ariel drawing from yesterdays disney crossovers counts as a sketch a day? doesn't it?

yes. yes it does.

anyway today i happen to come across the X-men first class trailer in my youtube veiwings . It was exciting. professor xaiver had hair, moria mctaggert is in it, how lovely.

However what really pains me, more than kitty not being in it, though i excepted that, what really breaks my little fan girl heart is no cyclops in it.

I weep slightly just typing it. I would have loved to have seen awkward 60's teen cyclops pineing Jean Grey's love.

aww. now i would watch a film like that.

today on Disney Crossovers...

Love is an emotion often explored in art and disney crossovers is no exception. However disney crossovers like to shake things up a bit and pair up unlikely couples

awww how lovely, but how impractical. I assume spiderman is carrying a hose around to spray ariel with water so she does not die?

They'd get along he'd show her the city....tell her amusing anicdotes, she'd die slowly of dehydration.

thanks disney crossovers for opening my eyes to this couple. I would have never have thought about it.

Russ.

Lots of Russell sketches. mainly his face.

I get ever so slightly irritated sometimes when i cannot draw him the same way. curse you russell, that's why you have such big ears, eyebrows, and a haircut that looks like a 5 year old child did it, so people can reconise you when i draw you badly.

Russ is my original character for the X-men original character comic contest. He can store kinetic energy when he is hit. he has no aspirations to be a super hero.

Today on Disney Crossovers..

Its a puzzler today. I just.....I have no words. Such a glorious Disney crossover picture.

The artist describes this as being "a movie poster" I'd pay to see this movie. Now don't get me wrong i loved Tangled, but when i came out of the cinema i did think to myself :

"do you know what his movie was missing? dobby from harry potter in a sassy no nonsense pose"

Don't you deny that you were thinking the exact same thing, and now, thanks to disney crossovers our dream is a reality.

sketch a day 5

practicing drawing my teammate in the x-men evo contest: Dynamism .

He drains energy from batteries of electrical appliances or recharges them. Handy if you are on a road trip or want to mildly annoy someone.

He also looks down on people who he feels are below his intelligence. Now that i like, a lot. He and russ are going to have such a great time together on the catwalk that might very well lead to their ultimate doom.

sketch a day 4!

I'm always so late with putting up my sketch a days. :( anyway this is greyforce. He is in the brotherhood of evil mutants - in training. He is just a little bit badass. I mean he has villianus uplighting! and sunglasses!

This is an oc I am up against in the x-men oc comic contest on deviantart. i think i am gonna have fun with him.

Today on Disney Crossovers..

Deviantart is a magical place, a place where folk can join groups with like minded people to share their love for a certain fandom through art, poetry and prose.

Its quite joyous, but sometimes there is a group you kind of regret joining, and their updates continue to flood your inbox with such bizarre images and ideas.

This group is "Disney crossovers" Everyday some little gems enter my inbox and i usually share them with my friend starting the conversation with "today on Disney crossovers"

He enjoyed this very much a suggested i add a similar segment on my blog so..without further Adue

Today on Disney crossovers..... we have the groups most favourite style of art: casual lesbianism

nice.

Sketch a day 3

To pass the long hours of the days I a currently drawing people's original characters in an x-men oc comic contest as small children Today was "antimatter's" turn. She can melt stuff with her hands..in this case her building blocks :(

Drawing babies/children put me in such a spelling bee mood i decided to draw leaf coneybear too

not too please with him. i think I could push the design a bit more.

sketch a day...day 2!

Prepare for yourself folks, prepare for poor quality webcam photos due to an absence of scanner.

not a digital drawing? shocker.

damn you scanner and your continuous hiding in the many, many unopened moving boxes in my garage. damn you! and all my DVD collection, who I believe are in cahoots with you as, like you scanner, they continue to hide from me.

First we have a little sketch of my baby brother drawing his favorite toy story character. He looks a little like an OC of mine, pure coincidence I'm sure.
Secondly, I played the "draw a random shape/blob then make a drawing out of it" game, because i couldn't think of anything to draw..I outlined the original shape in red
Grumpy train man.

Now off to comb the internet for a download link of tonights being human

Saturday, 5 February 2011

New year, new banner, new updates.

heck yes! Lets get this blog of it's death bed and back into motion. I have taken upon myself to strive to improve drawing the human anatomy because i can't forever be drawing floating heads.

Thus, I have joined the ranks of many an artist to "sketch a day" so every day draw something. anything..and what was the first thing i drew?

Justin Beiber.

I must be subconsciously excited for his film "Never say never" I mean it is in 3D.
